Welcome Vendors

CHB is inviting applications for vendors who would like to market their wares or promote their business at the Olds Cow Palace during the CHB Fall Poultry Show on Saturday, Nov 13th.
10 x 10 stall spaces are available for just $25.00!  It’s a low cost, high impact opportunity to sell your crafts, art, produce or home business items.  For local companies, this is an excellent way to network with potential customers in the ag industry, and create brand awareness.
The market will run from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm on Saturday only.  Vendors will need to supply their own table and display materials. If you would like to inquire about reserving one or more vendor stalls at the Poultry Show, please email us at: canadianheritagebreeds@gmail.com.

Bird Buying and Selling

A sales area will be available for buying and selling birds during show hours.  Bird selling spaces are reserved for EXIBITORS ONLY, so you must have birds entered in the show to be eligible.  Sales cage holes must be reserved and paid for with your show entries.  There are limited cages available and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.
Cost:  $5 per Large Fowl hole. (Sorry, no bantam, turkey or goose cages available.)
This is a one-time fee, so you can bring extra birds along and re-fill your spot as your birds are sold throughout the day.  Birds brought to sell need to be healthy and in good condition, and preferably good, standard-bred examples of the breed.
Multiple birds may be displayed in each hole, however over-crowding is not allowed.

JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP

Picture
The Junior Showmanship competition has quickly become a highlight of CHB shows, for participants and spectators alike! It is a chance for the kids to be in the spotlight as they demonstrate their poultry knowledge and handling ability. This competition is open to anyone from age 4 to 17 years of age. There are no entry fees or costs involved.
General Information:
Showmanship competitors are not required to have birds entered into the regular Junior Show classes. Birds used for Showmanship do not need to adhere closely to breed standards, as required in the general poultry show classes.  Contestants are not judged on the conformation of the bird, but on his/her breed knowledge and ability to show their bird to its best advantage.  The bird should be in “show condition” meaning clean, healthy, well-feathered, and free from external parasites.
 Scoring:
Scores will be tallied according to level of competence in the following categories:
Handling: Contestants will be judged according to their ability to hold and handle their bird with skill and confidence.  This will be demonstrated to the judge by correctly removing the bird from the cage, and correctly inspecting the anatomy of the bird (i.e.: spread the wings, examine keel, beak, toes) and returning the bird to the cage (head first).
Knowledge Testing: CHB will follow the guidelines set out by Youth Exhibition Poultry Association (YEPA).  Please refer to this sheet for sample questions at the Junior level.

Contestants are asked to dress neatly, be attentive, courteous and remain professional throughout the competition.
Junior showmanship is a fun way to for kids to be actively involved in poultry shows.  If you have a child who would like to take part in Showmanship at the CHB Fall show, just let one of the committee members know on the day of the show. Stop by the show secretary’s “office area” to leave your children’s names and find out when and where to meet.

Thank you so much for supporting the work of CHB by purchasing an annual membership!
