Wild Rose Classic Double Poultry Show
The Wild Rose Classic Poultry Show is fast approaching!
CHB usually holds an annual fall show in November, but this year it has been rescheduled to January, 2023. It will definitely be worth the wait! This will be a DOUBLE OPEN POULTRY SHOW, DOUBLE JUNIOR SHOW PLUS EGG COMPETITION! This exciting event will be held at the fabulous Cow Palace, Olds Regional Exhibition Grounds at Olds, Alberta. This decision to host two separate shows at the same time was made to allow exhibitors to pack up their birds and travel to one venue, while participating in two shows running simultaneously! Each of the shows has a special designation as well...one has been assigned by the American Poultry Association to be the Alberta Provincial Show for 2022, and the other is the APA District 11 Meet. This is a fantastic opportunity for exhibitors, and our club has received special grant funding that will allows us to keep the entry fees exceptionally low... just $5.00 will get your bird automatically entered into two separate shows and be judged by two different judges! We are very pleased to welcome our Open Show judges, Stephen Blash from North Oxford Massachusetts, and Bart Pals of Mason City, Iowa. Judging the junior shows will be our local Alberta judges, Rico Sebastianelli and Callum McLeod. There will be plenty to see and do on Saturday, whether you are competing in the bird or egg shows, or just coming to enjoy the day as a spectator. You won't want to miss the Junior showmanship competition, and visitors of every age are sure to love the petting zoo. If you are a bird enthusiast, or just interested to see what a poultry show is all about, this is definitely the place to be on Jan 21st! Public Admission: There will be a low public admission fee at the door of $2.00 per adult and $1.00 per child. This fee does not apply to exhibitors or volunteers. |

Welcome VendorsCHB is inviting applications for vendors who would like to market their wares or promote their business at the Olds Cow Palace during the show.
10 x 10 stall spaces are available for just $25.00! It’s a low cost, high impact opportunity to sell farm products, crafts, art or home business items. For local companies, this is an excellent way to network with potential customers in the ag industry, and create brand awareness. Public viewing hours are from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm on Saturday only. Vendors will need to supply their own table and display materials. If you would like to inquire about reserving one or more vendor stalls at the Poultry Show, please email us at: canadianheritagebreeds@gmail.com. Bird Buying and SellingA sales area will be available for buying and selling birds during the show hours. Bird selling spaces are reserved for EXIBITORS ONLY, so you must have birds entered in the show to be eligible. Sales cage holes must be reserved and paid for with your show entries. There are limited cages available and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.
Cost: $5 per Large Fowl hole. Sorry, no bantam, turkey or goose cages available. If you need a larger cage, you are welcome to pay the $5.00 per cage fee and bring your own cage. This is a one-time fee, so you can bring extra birds along and re-fill your spot as your birds are sold throughout the day. Birds brought to sell need to be healthy and in good condition, and preferably good, standard-bred examples of the breed. Multiple birds may be displayed in each hole, however over-crowding is not allowed. |
JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP

The Junior Showmanship competition has quickly become a highlight of CHB shows, for participants and spectators alike! It is a chance for the kids to be in the spotlight as they demonstrate their poultry knowledge and handling ability. This competition is open to anyone from age 4 to 17 years of age. There are no entry fees or costs involved.
General Information:
Showmanship competitors are not required to have birds entered into the regular Junior Show classes. Birds used for Showmanship do not need to adhere closely to breed standards, as required in the general poultry show classes. Contestants are not judged on the conformation of the bird, but on his/her breed knowledge and ability to show their bird to its best advantage. The bird should be in “show condition” meaning clean, healthy, well-feathered, and free from external parasites.
Scoring:
Scores will be tallied according to level of competence in the following categories:
Handling: Contestants will be judged according to their ability to hold and handle their bird with skill and confidence. This will be demonstrated to the judge by correctly removing the bird from the cage, and correctly inspecting the anatomy of the bird (i.e.: spread the wings, examine keel, beak, toes) and returning the bird to the cage (head first).
Knowledge Testing: CHB will follow the guidelines set out by Youth Exhibition Poultry Association (YEPA).
Contestants are asked to dress neatly, be attentive, courteous and remain professional throughout the competition.
Junior showmanship is a fun way to for kids to be actively involved in poultry shows and demonstrate their poultry skills and knowledge. If you have a child who would like to take part in Showmanship, just let one of the committee members know on the day of the show. Stop by the Show Reception desk to register your children and find out when and where to meet.
